Todo Santos MissionIn 1724 Todos Santos was founded with a Jesuit Visiting Mission and farm community to supply the water poor La Paz Mission community with fruits, vegetables, sugarcane, and wine.  Todos Santos was actually larger than La Paz by the mid 1700’s.  In the late 1800’s Todos Santos thrived as a a major sugarcane producer with eight mills in full swing.  During this period many beautiful theaters, municipal offices, and homes for local artists were built.  By 1965, all of the sugar mills had closed – victims of low sugar prices and lessening water supplies.

Hotel California in Todos SantosFollowing its artistic history, Todos Santos has become know for its art galleries and art festivals.  Numerous artists have chosen to make Todos Santos their home.  Mexico’s Todos Santos now boasts some of the finest restaurants and hotels in all of Baja California Sur, including the famous Hotel California.

Pacific Ocean in Todos SantosTodos Santos has an ideal climate.  It is located on the Tropic of Cancer in Baja California Sur, which provides warm sunny days in the winter.  While its position near the Pacific Ocean keeps it much cooler and less humid in the summer than Cabo San Lucas or La Paz.

The great weather and perfectly formed waves have long made the Todos Santos area a destination for surfers from all over the world.  There are beaches with waves for beginning surfers as well as beaches with waves for the most accomplished surfers.
